Dear friends,

We are so excited to welcome you to our second annual Dia De Luz on March 6, 2008! Here are a few tips and ways you can prepare for our day together in Nicaragua...

preparing your heart

There's joy and victory in this day! Your footsteps of light, laughter, and smiles will be laid out across the seemingly hopeless landscape. Remember that the greatest gift we offer to this community is ourselves. You should feel free to engage everyone you meet... through conversations, laughter, hugs... and invite them to come to the concert. As we learned last year, we get to be connected as one family! Watch the video...

what to bring

Everyone must wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. You will be walking into the working area of the dump, so this is very important! Please use discretion if you choose to handle the trash. Be prepared for the weather too: wear sunscreen and drink plenty of water.

We are collecting shoes for the community. Please wear a pair of expendable shoes (in good repair) and bring a pair of flip flops. At the end of the day, we will collect all the shoes worn into the dump and donate them to families in need!

what not to bring

Please only bring yourself... no cameras, money, food, etc. Our currency will be hugs, high fives, smiles, tears, and just walking along side the people who live and work in La Chureca… there will be no handouts and no hiding behind our cameras! Thank you for your understanding and sensitivity here.

see you there!

We look forward to celebrating this special day with each of you. If you have any questions, please talk to your team leaders. Thank you for standing with us!
